PARQUE BOLÍVAR
Referente histórico de Medellín, fue construido a mediados del siglo XIX. Aún hoy se conservan algunas de las casas de gran valor arquitectónico, donde residían las familias prestantes de la ciudad. El recientemente restaurado Teatro Lido es otra de las joyas de la arquitectura que engalanan la zona, pero la edificación dominante allí es la Catedral Basílica Metropolitana, imponente edificación cuya construcción se realizó entre 1875 y 1930. A este parque, con la escultura Bronce Ecuestre del Libertador Simón Bolívar, obra del italiano Eugenio Maccagnani, confluye el Bulevar de Junín. Gracias a su arborización con numerosas especies nativas, es uno de los pulmones en el centro de Medellín. Es visitado todos los días por cientos de personas, pero especialmente las mañanas de los domingos, cuando la Banda Sinfónica de la Universidad de Antioquia interpreta al aire libre, en la llamada ‘Retreta del Parque’, lo mejor de su repertorio; o el primer sábado de cada mes, con el ‘Mercado de Sanalejo’, tradicional muestra artesanal, bastante concurrida.

BOLÍVAR SQUARE
One of Medellín's historical landmarks, the Bolívar Square, built in the middle of the 19th century, is still flanked by some of the old mansions, home to many a prominent citizen of the Medellín of yesteryear. Recently restored Lido Theater also adds its own architectural merit to the grandeur of the Square. Still, the dominant structure among all these architectural jewels, is the Metropolitan Cathedral, which was built between 1875 and 1930.
The Junín Boulevard pedestrian walkway converges into the square's south end, which is crowned by a commanding equestrian statue of Liberator Simón Bolívar, designed by Italian sculptor Eugenio Maccagnani. The Square, visited daily by hundreds, offers a respite from downtown asphalt with its numerous native tree species. Every Sunday morning the Square dons its best dress as people flock to listen to the free concert offered by the University of Antioquia's Symphony Orchestra. And on the first Saturday of every month it bustles with the offering of handicrafts and memorabilia during the “Sanalejo” open air flea market.
