This so-called “guardian” hill, one of seven found in Medellín, is a Natural and Historic National Heritage site. Over a road that allows cars to a certain point, the visitor is afforded magnificent views of the city from overlooks along the route to the top. There are public areas where cultural activities are celebrated such as sky gazing on full-moon nights. In times past Cerro El Volador was used as ceremonial grounds for the indigenous people who lived in the Aburrá Valley. Today, their artifacts can be viewed in the archeological museum located at the top. This natural reserve, which offers guided tours, is perfect for all types of outdoor activities such as hiking along ecological pathways, jogging, bicycling, or kite flying.
